This policy lists every cookie and similar technology this website can set, what each one does, how long it lasts and whether it needs your consent. Personal data handling is covered in the privacy policy.

1. What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser when you visit a site. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels and software development kits. All of them are treated the same way in this policy and referred to as cookies throughout.

2. Categories used on this site

  • Strictly necessary — keep pages loading, forms working and the administrator session secure. These cannot be switched off and do not need consent.
  • Analytics — measure which pages are read, where visitors arrive from and how those pages are used, including anonymised session replays. Set only after you accept.
  • Advertising — none are used on this site today. If that changes, this policy and the banner will be updated before any are set.

3. How consent works

A banner appears on your first visit with two controls: Essential only and Accept all. Nothing is pre-ticked and nothing is inferred from continued browsing.

Before the Google tag loads, every storage type it understands is set to denied through Google Consent Mode, so no analytics identifier exists until you accept. Your answer is stored in your browser's local storage — not in a cookie — together with the date it was given, and you are asked again after 12 months.

Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymised session replays and heatmaps so layout problems can be seen rather than guessed, is not loaded at all until you accept — its script is never requested, so no recording begins and no identifier exists before then. Clarity masks text typed into form fields by default, so what you enter is not recorded.

4. Changing or withdrawing consent

Use the Cookie preferences control in the footer of any page. It reopens the banner with your current answer so you can accept measurement or reduce the site to strictly necessary cookies at any time. Withdrawing consent stops further collection immediately and deletes the analytics identifiers already stored in your browser; to have records already collected deleted, email hi@bussinesstan.com.

An audit of the live site on 24 August 2026 found no cookie set on an anonymous visit before consent. The WordPress entries are set only once somebody signs in to administer the site.

6. Third parties

Two third parties are involved. Google Ireland Limited, for Google Analytics 4, receives page addresses, referrer, device and browser information and a coarse location (its privacy policy). Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, for Microsoft Clarity, receives the same page and device information together with an anonymised recording of how the page was used - pointer movement, clicks and scrolling - which is what produces the heatmaps and session replays (its privacy statement). Clarity masks text typed into form fields by default, so what you enter is not recorded, and it keeps the data for 13 months. Neither is given an identifier to store until you accept. No advertising, embedded video or social provider sets anything on this site, and no sender or beneficiary data from any client platform is collected here.

7. Browser controls

Your browser can block or delete cookies independently of the banner, usually under its privacy settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break forms and administrator login. Instructions differ by browser; the settings menu of the browser you are using is the reliable source.

8. Changes to this policy

The table is re-checked against an audit of the live site at least every 12 months, and after any change to analytics or advertising tooling. Changes are published on this page with a new version number and a new last updated date.
